The Deal Of The Century, Not Without The Syrian Golan Heights
By Sonja van den Ende
Yesterday, under a lot of applause and overindulgent arrogance, the leaders of Israel and the US presented their so-called peace plan for the Middle East, or what they call the Palestinian-Israeli peace plan. The whole world media was focused on the rejection of the Palestinians, which in my opinion was to be expected. But none of the regular media outlets mentioned the big issue of the Syria's occupied Golan Heights, occupied since the Six-Day War in 1967.
The Golan Heights
The Golan Heights are a rocky mountainous area in Syria that was captured by Israel from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War. The international community and International law consider the Golan Heights to be under military occupation. In 1981, the Israeli parliament issued a law stipulating that Israeli law be implemented in the Syrian Golan Heights. The United Nations Security Council unanimously passed resolution 497 which condemned the change of status and declaring the Israeli law without any "legal effect”.
In 2019, the Trump Administration, in cooperation with the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, presented their plan for the illegal annexation of the Golan Heights from Syria and, to put it bluntly, steal the land from Syria and make the large Druze community, who are Syrian citizens, obey the law of the occupier Israel. The US is the only country in the world recognizing this plundering of Syrian land.
Israel and Syria have been in a state of war since the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. The countries have fought three major wars, the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, the 1967 Six-Day War and the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The Lebanese Civil War in 1982 and the recent Hybrid War of the Syrian Conflict should be mentioned as well, during which time a lot of proof emerged that Israel harbored and sponsored terrorists which the West (Israel being part of the West) still calls rebels. This includes a deal to open the corridors from the south of Syria. On 22 July, 2018, the Israeli authorities reported the evacuation of 800 so-called White Helmets through Israel. Among them were many foreign terrorists and the two commanders of the Army of the South Fursan al-Joulan brigade: Moaz Nassar and Abu Rateb. Also, when the Syrian Arab Army liberated large parts of Syria, a huge stockpile of Israeli-made weapons was found throughout the country.
Syria has never recognized the State of Israel and doesn‘t accept Israeli passports for entry into Syria. They regard Israel as an enemy state, there haven‘t been diplomatic relations or cultural ties. Syria, however, supplies 10 percent of its water resources to the occupied town of Majdal al-Shams, a big Druze community, who are the victim of the illegal Israeli occupation.
Yesterday at the press conference in their self-indulgent and self-applauded performance, the two key players presented their so-called peace plan of the century, without settling the issue of the Golan Heights. If you listened carefully, they illegally annexed it. The same applies to Al-Quds (Jerusalem). Also Benjamin Netanyahu was very proud of the fact that a murder was committed, the elimination of Hasan Soleimani, as he called it.
Do these leaders really think that they can “buy” the Palestinians and Syrians with their money and get away with murder? Israel has a long history of assassinations in Palestine, Syria and any country who is critical of Israel, like Iran, which they then call antisemitism. The Israeli State is the only so-called Western country that put minors in prison and deprives them of education. They have turned Gaza into a living open-air prison where youngsters get radicalized because of lack of income and hope.
Netanyahu and Trump are good pals and have family relations through Trump' s son-in-law: Jared Kusner, who is married to Trump’s daughter Ivanka. This makes them one big happy Christian Zionist family who think humanity is only interested in one thing: deals and money.
But they are mistaken, the people of Syria and Palestine suffered a lot because of the Syrian conflict and the seventy-two years of occupation of Palestinian land, which they deny and say it’s all lies from Radical Muslims who would like to destroy Israel.
Of course, they are radicalized, but so are the Zionists and Christian Zionists. As I said many times, Zionism is not Judaism. Zionism is an ideology to conquer land and was based originally on socialist principles (kibbutz), but turned into political right-wing Zionism over the years and brought the Middle East to the brink of destruction. Judaism is a religion, period.
How to continue? In my opinion, everything will stay as it is, or maybe get worse. Israel is trying to convince Arabs, mostly Sunni states, to get support for their peace plan like Bahrain, a state ruled by Saudi mercenaries where they suppress the Shiite majority, Oman, and the UAE. Saudi Arabia is already on their side, but as I wrote before, the ruling house of Saudi is part of Jewish ancestry. Recently, Israeli citizens are granted visas for doing business in the Wahhabi kingdom.
As long as some issues are not settled, the Syrian Golan Heights, the minors in prison, the annexation of Palestinian land, the “Apartheid” status of the Palestinian people and economic disaster, and the status of Al-Quds, there will be no “deal of the century”.
